Not the best time to start a business in Greece

Deciding to give up our jobs, move to Greece and start a holiday business was a difficult decision and wasn't taken lightly.

What we could not have foreseen was a global pandemic and Brexit. This resulted in all bookings for 2020 being cancelled and a significantly short season in 2021 due to travel restrictions. This resulted in us having to return to the UK in October 2021 and work for 5 months there, Brett staying at his mum's in Brighton and working at the hospital and me staying with my mum in Worthing and working at a wine shop. We hardly saw each other during this period but managed to save enough money to see us through the next season.

We returned to Greece on 29th March 2022. The land was completely overgrown with weeds as high as me. Trying to find our plants was in itself a challenge. I couldn't simply strim the land in fear of strimming our plants too so I had to painstakingly weed by hand in the areas where I thought plants would be. Luckily I love gardening but it was soul destroying seeing what had become of previous hard work. 8 weeks later with only 2 days off and help from mum who visited, we got it back to how it was. It really was a race to get it all done before our first guests arrived but we did it.

2022 has been okay but there are still signs that people are still nervous about booking.
